The Tetrad Cell Biology Program
Collaborations among the cell biology laboratories and with other scientists at UCSF help create a fertile environment for pursuing answers to questions of cellular structure, function and development.
The faculty of the Cell Biology Program is drawn from the Departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, and Physiology.
The participant research groups share an interest in understanding the structure, function and differentiation of cells and tissues. They employ a wide variety of approaches, instruments and techniques that characterize modern biology: cell culture, chemistry, electrophysiology, genetics, molecular biology, and ultrastructure.
Cell Biology Program Activities
In order to foster communication among the cell biology research groups as well as others at UCSF who are interested in cell biology, the cell biology program sponsors a yearly two-day retreat at Wilbur Hot Springs.
The retreat at Wilbur Hot Springs is a popular and effective meeting held at a rustic resort with natural hot springs near Wilbur, CA, several hours northeast of San Francisco. The meeting is made up of short informal talks (most of which are presented by graduate students, faculty & postdoctoral researchers). The relaxed schedule allows ample opportunity for informal discussions, and relaxing in the hot springs.
