Transcriptional regulators in energy balance

We focus on development of neuroendocrine regions in the brain that contribute to neural networks of energy balance and reproduction. Our lab uses broad approaches to tackle this question ranging from mouse genetics to the structural biology of NR5A nuclear receptors that specify cell fate in the hypothalamus. Because the hypothalamus is still poorly understood, our efforts have been to define new markers for this brain region using RNA profiling and a genetic screen in zebrafish (with H. Baier). We are also exploring the role of SUMO conjugation and nuclear phosphatidyl inositol (PI) sensing by NR5A nuclear receptors using biochemistry and X-ray crystallography
